5.) Jukkasjarvi, Sweden’s ‘Icehotel’
This incredible hotel is literally re-created every year during the cold season. It is located approximately 17 kilometers, or about 11 miles, from Kiruna. The ICEHOTEL was the very first of its kind ever constructed. It was first ‘opened’ in 1990, and the construction of the hotel takes place yearly between the months of December and April. Everything in and of the hotel, including the seating and sleeping furnishings, are made of snow and ice which is taken from the Torne River, and a variety of artisans contribute to the décor in each room of the hotel.
One will find far more than just sleeping accommodations at the Icehotel; there is also a chapel and a bar at the location, and even the drinking glasses are made of ice. If you opt to visit the Icehotel on your travels keep in mind that this incredible place maintains a consistent temperature of approximately five degrees below zero, so pack your parka and thermals! This location is actually very accessible from the UK, and not too badly priced either, so if you’re itching for a trip to Scandinavia, checkout the cheapest flights available from all UK airports at Cheap Flights.
