Punakaiki, located on New Zealand’s West Coast, is famous for its pancake rock formations, which are made entirely of natural limestone. It is estimated that these rocks began to form over 30 million years ago and actually consist of the bodies of dead sea creatures overlaid by softened clay and mud, all of which hardened over time to create the beautiful visual display you see above.
